I've had Tracfone for a while and overall, it's OK. I'm rarely on my cell. I'm the rare one who still has a landline.
I was at the mall yesterday & everyone's talking away on their phones a few ft from me, but I couldn't even dial out. I tried several times & also tried as I'm walking out of the mall, getting into my car, driving off...this kind of thing's happened once or twice before.
A message pops up saying, "mobile network not available". It finally works 15+ min later as I'm driving. What good is a cell if you can't use it?!
Additionally, my SO kept trying to reach me 2 days ago, but my cell never even rang. Two days later, all the voice messages & texts I should have gotten 2 days ago come flooding through out of the blue.
I called Tracfone and they said turn it off, then on again, but who knows if that will solve everything. I want something a lot more reliable w/o paying more than about $20 every 3 mos. Any suggestions? TIA.
Tracfone offers all 4 major carriers. I'm on Verizon with Tracfone and I generally get very good coverage inside buildings and overall in the area where I live. You might ask your friends which carrier they use that has good coverage where you live and then switch to that one within Tracfone. To change which carrier you use, you may need to buy a different phone, and then you can transfer your number and balance to it.
Verizon generally offers the best coverage with ATT a good second. With that said the issue could be having a cheap phone. Yes, quality does matter. Another cause is having an older phone. Getting a new phone that is not the least expensive and hooks into Verizon or ATT will solve your problem
I've had both the cheapest (free) and slightly better ones with TracFone but always make sure it is one on the Verizon network.
As far as letting it reset by turning it off? Why not try it? I even have to do that with my laptop occasionally
Samsung does make good phones so the phone's reception is probably fine, although you could do a search online of your phone model to see if others have problems also.
I think it's more likely that the trouble you are having is with the coverage of the signal, which is directly related to the underlying carrier that you are using on Tracfone.
Thanks again guys. I'm sure I've turned it off then on again in the past when this happened & it probably still didn't work, but so far for now, I paid another $20 for 3 more mos of service since it expired today. I'll see how it acts in these 3 mos.
Samsung is good quality if you get the Galaxy line. Their cheaper phones not so much.
LG is the same way. If you get their flagships, they're great phones. But those phones for less than $300 not so much.
