I don't have a cell phone, never have one. But I have heard the horror stories of autocorrect.

Why do they even have autocorrect in the first place. That has to be one of the dumbest most idiotic ideas WTF ideas ever. People usually know what they're typing and they know which words they want to use. They shouldn't have to go back and retype just because some machine randomly decided there should be a different word in there.

The same with Facebook automatically putting in links. There's no need for that. I shouldn't have to go back and delete links I never wanted in there in the first place.

Autocorrect is very useful. People type fast and they MAKE all kinds of typos, then suffer the humiliation of sending a typo to a friend or making a grammatical error in an email to a colleague or boss.
What they don't do is proof-reading. It seems that very few nowadays actually care about what they write and how...

You do realize that auto correct can be shut off on a cell phone ??

Sometimes people mistype and auto correct was designed to help the message to be read more coherently. I have seen some hilarious results of auto correct, nobody has to use it if they do not want to. The technology was developed to make typing as fool proof as possible, but it isn't perfect.

If somebody is going to be stupid enough to send it without even proofreading it there shouldn't be special provisions that are an obstacle to normal people just to help them

For spelling errors that red line like we have here works just fine. If you know that the word is spelled correctly you can just ignore it, don't have to go back and delete anything.

I'm assuming that most people proofread, or have we gotten that lazy?

Why are you complaining about auto correct if you don’t have a cellphone? Auto correct is useful and works well 90% of the time

I blame autocorrect for the fact that many of the college-educated adults and college kids I work with can't spell for ***.

It's helpful in case you forget to use a question mark.

So someone who doesn't use auto correct starts a post to rant about... how dumb everyone else is because we use auto correct?!?!?
That's like me ranting about how modern jet engines are built...

On that thought, I think I will boycott modern jet airliners and start demanding that I only want to fly in turbo prop airplanes when I fly cross-country or internationally.
