The attached image is exactly how I wear my headset with my hat.
You could always get an in-the-ear pair and wear any hat you want.
In the ear types bother my ears. Causes sores. I like the classic Sony Walkman headset type with foam cushion ear pads, but these do not sport wireless technology. I have a pair like these that are panasonic with the cord. I can position them on my head with the headband behind my neck so it's out of the way of the brim and crown of my sun hat. They are so light and compact that stay securely over my ears when worn in this fashion even. The typical over the ear headset with Bluetooth is a big, heavy clunk device (much like classic 1970's studio headphones with the big plug) that needs the headband directly over the top of the head to hold in place securely. Putting the headband behind my neck, no SEE-gar, here.
I wish sun hat designers and headset engineers would meet minds up on the fifth floor.
I use a Bluetooth over the ear headset and don't have to worry about a cord getting in the way. My headset has a built-in microphone (not a boom microphone) and I can accept incoming calls directly to the headset. The manufacturer of my headset states it has about a 30 hour battery and have yet to have the headset battery die on me.
Ditch the headset. Do you really want to look like a telephone operator, anyway?
You are thinking about the padded headphones with a boom microphone (not over the ear). I did that for almost 9 years as a cellphone customer service rep.
