To summarize: Phone's using Android Nougat which will be over 5 years old when they cannot accept certificates from secure websites.

So we're talking very very old Android phones.

Yup. And, there are people using those phones yet.
Agreed, not very many.

The expression, "Adapt or die" comes to mind. Simple Darwinism.

Hey...
She's a heckuva wife and a great cook. And not at all smartphone focused or oriented.

I miss WindowsPhone, every time I pick hers up, I have a fleeting pang of nostalgic jealousy.

But... but... the camera on that thing. Not to generalize but cameras are pretty important to most women I would say. I know it is for my wife.

Not an issue for her. The camera was good enough.
EOL for the battery approaching and too many apps that just don't work anymore pushed her over the edge.

So, I'm configuring her new phone, which I pulled the trigger on in a moment of her weakness.
Basically, it has apps, etc, on it, so I have it ready to go, to the point we need her input, and that may require me recognizing another moment of weakness, or when her phone just won't charge.

I have been trying to get her to upgrade for about 3 years.
She drives her cars until parts start flying off when she hits 35 MPH.
This was her first smartphone. She accepted it all right, but it wasn't a nearly a life priority by any means.
"How can a $400 phone be outdated?" I don't think she is the only one with that frame of mind for sure.
Definitely not a continuous "nose in the phone" type.
