I have been on here literally for hours pouring through the information and I am discovering a lot of older information. I do understand this question has been asked a LOT....however please bear with me. My family and I are possibly making the move to the Charleston area due to work. This is not a certain move...however, I do like to prepare. We are currently in Kansas City and this move would be a blessing due to the weather change and proximity to the water!! Our children are 12, 9 and 6. I was wondering what are is a nice area. We are looking to rent a home when we arrive, but want to stay with one school and not hop around. We are a middle class family so a high price neighborhood is out of the quesiton. We are looking for a good area for the public school- any help would be amazing!!

If you would like to find a good schools and a nice size home search in Summerville. Mount Pleasant is another great area but since it is closer to the beach and downtown a little pricier. Rentals are in high demand right now. I would search for a rental a month before your move. Most Owners won't hold a rental for long.

I feel like Mt. Pleasant is out of the question with the information that I have read just regarding price. I also thought of summerville. Is this traditional school or year long?

Don't discount Mount Pleasant. There are some deals. There are some areas that are further out but still closer tot he beach and the downtown then Summerville and still have great schools.

Do lots of searching online and find a good agent.

Summerville is a good darea but you will still need a decent agent to help you focus on what would work for you and your family.

The Dorchester District II School System is reputed to be one of the best in the state. North Charleston in Dorchester County and Summerville in Dorchester county are the areas.

I am a retired teacher from the Charleston area- so feel comfortable commenting on the schools in the area. Mt. Pleasant has excellent schools as does the Dorchester County area. I think another thing to consider is drive time to your work. Also the amount of rent that you would be able to afford. Each area is different- so it would be helpful to know what your budget would allow.

We are looking for about $1200 per month in rent looking for a 3 bedroom house. I don't really know the area well enough to know what traffic is to be expected- but we are hoping for nothing more than 30 minutes 1 way. Is this realistic?
