As a recent new resident, I am really enjoying getting to many local attractions for a song using Be a Tourist in Your Own Town. The tickets cost us 20 bucks each for admission into 28 local attractions. So far we've seen the Hunley, The Old Exchange and Provost Dungeon, the Powder Magazine, The Charleston Museam, The Akin-Rhett House and the Edmondston-Alston House.
Catch is you need to a resident of Charleston, Berkeley or Dorchester county, and the passes only last a month (January). We will used the passes to find the places worth bringing family to visit - it works for us, works for the community.
That is a great program. We did it a couple of years ago and went to places I hadn't visited since I was a kid. The tickets are on sale Nov & Dec for Jan only use.
Shame on Charleston for NOT offering this wonderful advantage for living here! Our family has visited the many attractions and have told others about them, so they can visit also.
It is my understanding that many of the venues didn't sign up this year as they felt that their business had picked up and they didn't need Be a Tourist. Big shame, as it helped us determine what to take our out of town guests too. The web site said that they may have some locals offers later. I hope so.
that is lame... its a good program for new residents. Its great when visitors come and ask where can we go, and I don't have much of a clue, I am still learning the place myself.
I agree, I think this is a major loss for the community. There are a lot of people with families or those on smaller or fixed incomes who could really enjoy this. Discontinuing it due to their business picking up is kind of a shame. Businesses should reward the community for their support.
I don't buy for one minute that it was not scheduled this year because of business picking up. What I do believe it is, is the fact that there is also restaurant week in January and businesses' simply can not take that loss for two weeks of the month as sales are down overall....(close to the holidays, economy, etc.)
There are MANY great deals going on now for restaurant week, go and enjoy!
