Looking for a good, reliable, reasonably priced licensed contractor to do some work on the outside of our house. Want someone who does the work himself...not someone who subs out to non-licensed people. Have tried a few names mentioned on this forum with no luck. We are new to the area and would prefer to go with referrals, not someone from the phone book. Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated. TIA.........

Please let me know what you find. I've found the worst contractors and that referrals from many professional sources (realtors, building owners etc) have been a disaster. Lazy, unskilled, etc.

I'm looking for a few things to be done so if I find anyone I'll send info your way as well.

Thanks in advance!

Recently I used a gen contractor for work inside prior to moving. You did not specify what kind of work you need......most companies have their own carpenters, but sub out plumbing, electrical etc.

OK, now: by using the local HOMEBUILDER'S ASSOC., I chose to use gen contractors:

Atlantic Builders of Charleston. Husband and wife owned business for years; now wife is the boss and a very good one, with many years experience. I could not have had more attentive care and great work. This company has won numerous local awards you can check online. They do mostly custom homes and remodeling.

Good luck!
