We currently live in NY and have 2 children under 4. We are looking in Mount Pleasant for its beaches, beautiful homes, good schools and the fact it is close to the Charleston airport which is important since my husband travels a lot for his job. My husband is from NY and I am British and I am wondering if are people in Mount Pleasant are open to outsiders? We want to find a place where we and our kids are welcomed! Would Mount Pleasant be a good fit? What are the best neighborhoods and schools? We are looking for a larger home in a friendly neighborhood with a clubhouse/pool and perhaps trails and open areas, any recommendations? How easy is it to the city of Charleston and what kind of vibe does the city have? Is Charleston a good airport for a frequent flyer? And this might be a silly question but I am not used to things like hurricanes! How worried do I have to be about scary weather? Lots of questions I know! Thanks in advance!
If you place Mt Pleasant in the search forums box and many of your other topics you will find more information and many discussions about just these matters
LOL. I'm sorry but I have to laugh a little at this one.
Normally the "will Charleston accept me threads" are "I'm black, will Charleston accept me?" or "I'm gay, will Charleston accept me?" or "I'm dating someone of a different race, will Charleston accept me?"
This is the first time I've seen anyone question whether or not Charleston would accept them simply because they are from another country...
Short answer is Charleston hasn't had a problem with Brits since the war of 1812...you'll be fine.
Let me weigh in on this. We moved recently to Charleston, Mount Pleasant specifically. We have a boy soon to be 3 yrs old. I am from NYC (Brooklyn) and my wife from Turkey (speaks proper english better than myself).. so I might be able to offer some insight I forsee zero difficulty, problems moving here. Everyone is super nice, friendly towards everyone and we appreciate the move more and more each day.
For some insight and more specifics, if you care to look, go view my own post on my search from NYC to move to Charleston and then accomplishing that and very happy we did.
