Being one who orders "unsweet tea", you have to make sure the "un" part is heard, otherwise you get sweet tea. There should be another name for it, like "plain" tea so there would be no confusion. I do put sugar in my tea, but just a little....can't handle the sweet in sweet tea. I have found I need to carry sugar packets with me, as there are many places that carry Splenda, Sweet 'n Low, etc., but not sugar. Guess they figure if you want it sweet, you want it really sweet!
Not complaining - just stating how I've had to adjust.
I don't see it as any particular tea being "standard." It's what you *prefer*....either sweet or unsweet.
I know lots of people who prefer one, and lots of people who prefer the other.
Yes, it isn't "iced tea" here. I have gone to lunch with co-workers that even order 1/2 sweet and 1/2 unsweet.
I do the exact same thing, when I can. Real sweet tea is much too sweet for me, but I will say that I sure like the sweet/unsweet combo much more than ordering unsweetened and then adding sugar at the table.
I love Arnold Palmer tea too, although I've never thought of ordering it that way in a restaurant.
What will I get if a order a soda? Is it called pop or soda pop? I don't actually drink it, but not I'm very curious.
