Living in NY, I don't trust the police. I think I've watched too many episodes of Law and Order. If I found a bundle of $100's on the sidewalk, yep, I'd keep it and help my kids out.
Turn it in to the station. If it's not claimed in 30 days (which it wouldn't be if it was in any way related to illicit sales..."I'm here to report I lost my drug money"...lol) then it is turned back over to the finder.
So, purely following the Golden Rule, I'd turn it in...and then kick myself repeatedly for a proportionate period of time related to how much money it was.
So are you guys cynics or am I Pollyanna? It never occurred to me that the police might just keep the money for a donut upgrade.
