So I'm going about this the opposite way. Most people ask about coming to Charleston for the weekend but we want to take the kids AWAY for 3-4 days. Either drive or a direct flight. Usually our vacations consist of Disney but that is just too far for that short a time (and it's not direct). Any suggestions? Thanks

My kids absolutely loved Pigeon Forge, but you can very quickly spend a LOT of money since so many of the attractions are the stand-alone type. It adds up quickly.

Pigeon Forge is great! We've been there several times... there's something fun for everyone. There's plenty on the strip to do, like go-carts, bungee "rides", indoor skydiving, arcades, etc.. And if you go in to Gatlinburg, you have an amazing aquarium, Ripley's museum, great shopping, and plenty of other attractions. If you enjoy being outdoors there are plenty of hiking trail-heads and camping sites. Ober Gatlinburg is also fun. Gatlinburg Attraction, Ski Resort & Amusement Park | Ober Gatlinburg We usually get a chalet in the mountains instead of getting a hotel room. There's a lot more seclusion and obviously a lot more scenery. Most of the chalets I've seen or stayed in have a hot tub, pool table, air hockey table, dart board, or some other kind of entertainment.

Kids are 12 and 5. We are Disney/Universal fans, resort fans but at the same time I love a mountain top family lodge type of place where I can horseback ride and BBQ at night. Been to Myrtle Beach..it has it's benefits but don't want to go too often. Saw some great shows, but kinda cheesy. We did the Disney Resort on Hilton Head...a bit disappointed as it really didn't feel "Disney." I have to add that a nice spa treatment for mom (that's me) never hurts to have nearby.

What is Pigeon Forge?
