I personally like Isle of Palms. You can find free parking, but I prefer to just park in the county lot. It is $8 per day. They do stop charging at one point in the year, but I don't remember when that is because I get a yearly pass.

There is free parking at Isle of Palms along 703. You have to make sure to be completely off the road or you will get a ticket.

We usually go to Sullivan's Island... free parking. We usually have really good luck around Station 21 1/2 or 22.

Do any of the beaches have a boardwalk or strip with shops, restaurants, bars, etc?

IOP has some of that, Folley has a long pier but not a real boardwalk.

There is free roadside parking at all the beaches. Folly and Sullivan's Island you need to have your tires OFF the asphalt. On IOP you have to be 4 feet off the road.
