I am considering accepting a job in Summerville as a medical professional. I am originally from the Northeast, but am relocating from New Mexico. I am a (newly) single woman, 40 y.o., and I don't know the first thing about the area outside of what I've been able to learn with online research. My first concern in choosing an area is safety, but I also want to make sure I'm not picking somewhere I'd feel isolated-- while the "singles" scene is not a priority, the social scene is, as I know not a soul in SC. Park Circle's online descriptions sound tempting, but I'm also hearing that unsafe/safe areas are pretty well mixed up there. Can anyone speak to the facts on that? If Park Circle isn't a great choice, then does Summerville have an active social scene for someone without kids? Or is it best to bite the commute-bullet and take a place in Charleston/West Ashley? I would like to rent for a year or so until I get (feel) settled. If anyone can offer intel on a specific area (and within that area, an apartment complex recommendation) I'd be terribly grateful.

I am a young woman on her own living in Park Circle and I feel safe in 95% of the areas. The other areas are just ones that you don't wander by yourself into at night and you'll be fine. The Old North Charleston strip in Park Circle (East Montague St) has a good mix of ages and lifestyles out and about. There's a few bars and a bunch of great restaurants. A few of the restaurants do trivia which is a great way to meet people. There's no apartment complexes in the Park Circle neighborhood to speak of but there are rental homes that can give you a good idea if you like it here or not.

I lived in Summerville in an apartment complex prior to moving to the Park Circle area and, while it was a nice area, I found it hard to meet people up there. It's definitely a quieter town and, while I don't go out to party and be crazy, I just found myself wanting for more of a social scene. There are nice apartment complexes up in Summerville and it's a safe area but I personally feel just as safe here as I did there.

Hope you find luck with your move! If you have more questions please feel free to shoot me a message

Some areas of park circle are not so nice to put it politely.....

The area is going through a major gentrification and revitalizing...

check out my post on Park Circle. I love what's happening over there and think it's one of the next "it" areas.
