Another dislike about this area in general is anytime you want to go towards town on 17, if there's a big event at Boone Hall, like today's oyster roast, there's tons of traffic and often accidents.
That would be why you go an alternate route on days like that.
If I were going Downtown, or even to Town Center in MtP, I wouldn't use 17 on a day like today when the Oyster Festival is going on.
I just don't like the area out Hwy 17 N to live, too far out from Downtown, and too much traffic. Yea, you can say it is less than big cities like Chicago and 30 mins isn't too far to drive. But, it is more than some of us want. It is too congested with people and a little 'out' from central Charleston.

Some people want to live close to downtown. Some don't care if they have to drive 5 minutes further. That's personal preference. Before moving here I had to drive 20 minutes just to get to a one horse town, 10 more to get to a two horse town, and another 10 to get to WalMart (the highlight of the town). So it's all relative.
The traffic in MtP isn't bad. It certainly isn't worse than anywhere else in the Charleston area.
I went from interior Park West to West Ashley and back yesterday. 17 minutes to the bridge traveling south. On the return trip the Ravenel Bridge was backed up with all the accidents on 526. It took me more than 20 minutes just to get across the bridge. Still, I started my time from the first stop light on the MtP side. It took two light cycles to get through the second light. After that there was absolutely NO traffic. It was light and as free flowing as you could possibly desire. All the thousands of cars on the Ravenel were quickly dispersed on the new, wider 17 in MtP. After the second light you would never even know the snarl that was on the bridge...it just "went away". Even with it taking me 20+ minutes to get across the bridge it took me just 20 minutes to get back to the interior (Grey Marsh circle) of Park West.
Well, Cape, I just don't like driving that much to get places. And, I like Sports Cars! I have one. Just prefer living next to places where a lot is going on.
