You can be on Folly in under 10 minutes from James Island. Takes me about 7 and I live half way between Charleston and Folly.

This is actually a good time of year to buy a boat, new models are coming out so any leftovers are going to be deeply discounted...

There are three or four different places around here that build new boats, Scout Boats in Summerville is one of them...

I'm sort of partial to North Carolina boat builders. A huge community of factory and custom builders. I'd guess there are at least 100 builders in NC. Boat sales in 2008 were more than $500 million & in 2011 more than $400 million in the state (the recession hurt 2009 & 2010 sales quite a bit). Just paying homage to boat building in my home state.

From N. Charleston you're looking at 25-30 minutes to Folly Beach depending on where your starting point is (and of course traffic at the time of day you choose to travel). You can be in Sullivan's Island in less or equal time.
