Do you think St. Andrew's PSA will ever succeed and become a part of the City of Charleston?
Just seems to me that things will be better for one goverenment to govern.
Look at the Charleston County GSI map and you can see pot holes all over. How does the PSA bring all these areas together as a community? Makes sense that all that area should be one as well as 'all' of James Island.
I know many will not agree with me. What's your take?
...at least with the James Island part. Everyone should have the right to be separate if that is what the majority desires.
Well I agree, but having 5 different towns (or what ever the number) are certainally worst than having 'one' city that can work together would be better for 'all'.
Then within that city, different communities would work together for the sake of the whole community.
Why 5 mayors, 5 fire depts., 5 police chiefs etc. Why 5 mediocres when you can have one 'good'. When you sprend out services they don't have the edge as being 'One'
St Andrews is really in an odd spot since the City of Charleston really did swallow it whole- or huge swaths of its residents abandoned ship to join the city depending on perspective. I live in a neighborhood (Avondale) that is probably a 65-35 city to PSD mix. And little things like getting ditches cleared or pitching an appropriate fit when people want to let businesses creep into the residential portion of the neighborhood (or open a bar on a site with absolutely no extra parking) becomes a hassle when every third house or commercial parcel has a different jurisdiction. The easiest indicator is trash day- green for the city, blue for St Andrews PSD.
And the independent Town of James Island is a bit of a joke since it wants to be a town but have everyone else contract services to it.
Mex 61, am I right? It's a nice place and all, but good luck taking a left onto St Andrews from Avondale Ave.
