I'm being lazy and could look it up, but.....anyone recommend switching to the SC 529 plan? Any tax advantages? Disadvantages? Costs?
Thanks

Look up Clarkhoward.com
and he has a 529 guide for all the states in the U.S. and the one to pick for South Carolina. I have it for my daughter. Hope that helps.

We have SC 529 plans. Which balance you use in the plan depends on many factors. There was no reason to go with an out of state plan when considering the tax incentives. Our plan is managed by the same investment manager that handles the 401ks that we've rolled when changing jobs. SC doesn't allow them to charge any more fees for this service than what is charged through the investment itself.

Here is Clark's page: Clark's 529 Guide | www.clarkhoward.com

Clark does believe that you shouldn't invest a dime in college savings until you've saved the max for your own retirement. This is because in his opinion, there will be more money options for a college student than there will be for a retired individual. I suppose he's right, but then if I have to sandwiches for dinner because I made sure my kids got a good start...
