As we prepare to move, one word of advice I've gotten is to start now with getting a handle on life in our new city by reading the local newspaper online, and doing things like finding the listserves or websites of clubs, teams or whatever that relate to your hobbies or interests.
Here I have access to three great resources -- an anonymous huge regional forum (it can be brutal and unkind, but also a great resource for information), a town-specific listserve (with names/emails but it's also a great marketplace for buying/selling kid and household things), and a $25/yr weekly subscription to an online newsletter that pretty much details everything happening around the greater metro area of interest to kids of all ages. Between these three, I really get not just advice but ideas of things to do, see and think about with regard to recreation, schools, health, etc. and not having something similar would be a shock to my system I think!
I know there are things like MOPS groups in the area, but can any moms or dads recommend any listservs or websites that are must-knows for parents in Charleston or Mt Pleasant?
There's a Facebook mommy exchange for selling items. Its invite only though. My wife is a member if that's what you're looking for.
