I find it interesting how Boise ID has listed cost of living as both a pro and con. Weird... Makes it seem like a sloppy piece to me. If anything charleston deserved to be higher on the list than some of these places.

And then charleston and Austin have per this article roughly the same average housing cost yet Austin gets dinged on cost of living while charleston doesn't and gets dinged on "volunteerism"? Hah

That list is truly bizarre. Fargo, ND? Great place, but no way would I retire there. Winters are brutal. Plus, what's up with all the college towns?

They put a lot of stock in the local economy, but if you're retiring I would think that wouldn't be as big of a deal.

The list was alphabetical so it was just a hodge podge of 25 cities they came up with. That's why Abilene got the #1 position. Kind of misleading when they rack and stack that way.
