I am a Jew from New York who very recently moved to Seabrook Island, SC. I have always adored the Charleston area and hold it with great respect. Do you think I will encounter anti-Semitism? I have never seen anything negative in my 20 years of vacationing in Charleston but living here will be different from a weeks vacation...
Glad to help. Seabrook is a beautiful area. You will love it. Try the Fat Hen restaurant and Wild Olive on Johns Island if you are looking for good food.
Charleston has traditionally had a large Jewish population with some of the oldest synagogues in the country. I grew up with a lot of Jewish friends, still have many, and have never heard them complaining about antisemitism here.
I've always had the understanding that Charleston has always been accepting of the Jewish community and the Charleston has always had a higher percentage of Jews than most other southern cities its size.Don't take this wrong, but I think being a New Yorker is going to be the problem if anything is .

Well said. Acting like rude, all is better in NY, etc. will be far more a problem than one's religion.
I am warmed by the responses.
I do see your point that the Jewish religion and the State of Israel are two separate things - very true. But it is a very common occurrence that people make them one issue.
I am a person who has been spending several weeks per year in the beautiful Charleston area. I become lost in the landscape. I am at peace here. To say I love it here is an understatement. You will * never* hear this girl saying ANYTHING is better in New York...I was ready to leave NY in my past.
Thanks again for the warm welcome.
