I'm being "transplanted'' to Charleston shortly by the company I represent ( Many new jobs in the Charleston area will follow). I would like some input on the private grade school situation in the area. Quality and diversity of experience are some key concerns.

Mason Prep is an excellent private elem. school, which is downtown near the City Marina. Porter Gaud has an excellent reputation (prob. the most expensive, as well), and Charleston Day School is also very good. First Baptist, Nativity, and Blessed Sacrament are all religious-based elem. schools (F.B. goes through High School) and of those, First Baptist has the best academic reputation. There is also Ashley Hall, an all-girls school (elem. - high school), which also has a wonderful reputation. On Johns Island there is Charleston Collegiate, which is good and there's Country Day out in Hollywood. None of these schools is extremely racially diverse, but none are all-white either (prob. around 90 - 95 % white).

Another is Pinewood Preparatory, located in Summerville, which has an excellent reputation. My oldest daughter attended there and she had a great academic experience. SCBeaches is correct in that they are not extremely diverse.
