Charleston has been climbing in the survery and has surpassed Columbia by one point. It's a long way from 72 to 100, but at least we're headed in the right direction.

I can totally believe that. We have a thriving gay community here and have for a long time. Back in the early 1990's, I met a gentleman who would open a bar/dance club on King Street called The Treehouse. He gave me a job and I worked at The Treehouse for four years. It was an amazing time in my youth for sure and opened my eyes to a whole new culture. Back then it was one of the only places in town besides Dudley's where gays were welcome. Back in those days, I can remember never really having any issues with the downtown crowds. Where we did have issues was with the Navy folks that would come party, and folks from the "country". It seemed whenever you had a pack of young Navy Nukes and drag queens dancing on the same floor, trouble seemed to always follow. Dudley's is still going strong downtown, Shenanigan's, Deja Vu II, Vickery's, and Grill 225.
This is the first year Charleston has scored higher than Columbia since the HRC started scoring cities on their LGBTQ-friendliness index. Charleston has been improving its score while Columbia’s hasn’t changed in several years.

I'm sure there's a thriving scene in most meto areas nowadays. The cities of SC are far more progressive than folks give us credit for.
It’s an index that measures things that municipalities and other government entities are doing in their hiring practices, public safety, and protections against housing discrimination for the LGBTQ community.

I think this is a shame! Why does the gay & lesbian community need so much attention. This is heading in the wrong direction, especially with the gay pride parades, we should have a straight parade every year too!
I'm a rock ribbed, redneck, gun tottin, Christian, somewhere to the right of Stonewall Jackson conservative, and I don't take much note of them or mingle with them.If I see them making fools of themselves I generally just walk the other way.It doesn't travel through the air.You can't catch it.

Thanks my conservative Brother, I feel the same, and you have a good way to deal with the decay of society...
