I am very interested in Daniel Island but am concerned about all the fees. Is resale hard because of the fees? Also, do people cash out when their kids go off to college?

The fees are high on Daniel Island but so are the prices and I guess if you can afford one, you can afford the other. Like Ziggy said, it doesn't seem to hurt sales at all.
The fee structure is complicated and changes often enough so that you'll want to make sure you're getting the latest information.
I'm not sure what you mean by "do people cash out when their kids go off to college?" If you're asking if folks continue to live there, I don't think it's much different than any other place. Some will stay and some will move elsewhere. There are plenty of sales happening on DI and they don't stay on the market long. There has so far not been any problem for owners wanting to sell there. Here are some statistics on DI that might help:
What fees are you talking about? Unlike Seabrook Island, Daniel Island does not have mandatory buy in fee. Yesw there will be HOA fees, optional club membership fees, etc. but no buy in.

There is a .5% "neighborhood enhancement" fee for most purchases on DI but it's capped at around $7,500. (Etiwan Park and Codner's Ferry Park is only .25%). If you're in Daniel Island Park (above 526) I believe you are required to purchase a minimum membership to the club but I'd have to look up the current status of that rule to be sure.

HOA fees are only if you are in an HOA. They are not a fee to live on Daniel Island. HOA fees are very dependent on what you get for them. As an example in my HOA, the HOA does all landscaping.

There's more than one fee in Daniel island. I'm not sure what they call it but its actually 3 fees. One is hoa, one is for parks and another is for something else but they are l due in January
Yes, there is a yearly HOA feel for single family homeowners, but it's low. I think it's @ $800-900/yr. That fee covers the island landscaping, as well as maintenance of the pools and tennis courts.
If you are in a townhouse or condo, you don't pay that fee, you pay the HOA fee for your development. They don't call them HOA fees, they call them Regime Fees, and those are very pricey - some as high as $600/month, maybe more now. There usually cover the maintenance for the exterior of the building, sometimes the roof, the front landscaping. You'd have to read the HOA docs.
Then there is the .5% of the sales price when a home is purchased (a one-time fee) for the "Neighborhood Enhancement Fee". There are no other fees that I am aware of.

Regime fees and HOA fees are a semantics issue as in they are basically the same thing.
