Can anyone recommend a good plumber that does pipe replacement? I am looking to have all my pipes replaced because they are polybutelane. I have already had one pinhole leak, so now I am concerned I might get more. I am in Mount Pleasant and have a 2 story townhouse. Thanks!
Plumbers are incredibly expensive. You might do better with a well rounded contractor or handyman.
I have 4 quotes so far from companies and one more coming tomorrow. I also have a licensed plumber that is a friend of a friend coming to take a look hopefully this weekend. I guess he is a master plumber, but doesn'twork for a plumbing company. I had a quote 4 years ago and the price has doubled!

I was looking for a plumber to install 4 tankless water heaters in two duplexes I own. I already had the heaters so it was just labor and misc materials. The only plumber who even got back to me wanted $8,000. When I asked him how long it would take, he said 3 days. I figure he couldn't have more than $2k in materials and helper. I pointed that out and he seemed to think that was normal. Reminds me of the joke about the brain surgeon and the plumber...
One issue with plumbers re-piping the house is that they'll have no incentive to minimize sheetrock and other necessary access damages. I re-piped a 4.5 bath, 3 story house once but I was also doing the all of the repairs so I was careful to minimize the damages. Much less added expense and much less disruptive to the homeowner.
I have narrowed it down to 2 plumbers. The lower priced plumber is a guy that I think only repipes. I don't believe he has the overhead like a bigger company, so his cost is lower than the others. The company is Ddependable Plumbing. Has anyone had any work done by this company? He was straightforward, was definitely knowledgeable, and he was the only one our cat didn't hide from. I really liked him. He is also very responsive to emails.
My next choice is Plumb Pro. They gave a good price and the estimators that came were very good. The only thing I really haven't liked so far is they are not responsive to emails. I had to call to get my questions answered, but they were very quick to give me a revised quote like I asked.
The 3 other companies were not as good as these two. One was supposed to call me 30 minutes before coming to give an estimate, but didn't, so I wasn't there for the estimate. This company also didn't seem to care where they would have to cut holes. Another company had an outrageous quote and that was with us cutting the holes. The third company didn't seem to want to pull a permit and said if they did we would be a week without water. They also said it would cost $500 for each new shower valve, which wasn't mentioned in the original quote.
I realize there will be a lot of drywall to fix, but the other half is a contractor, so I'm not worried about that. The small company I like normally takes care if the holes and paints, but we said we would take care of it. None of the other companies would patch the drywall.
I will post an update once the work is done in case anyone else is thinking about replacing pipes.
