It has been many years since I have been to Charleston and was wondering when I come down to visit in the spring where is one of the first places I should go to visit. I should be there about 4-5 days. Other than looking for good places to live and getting in touch with as many employers as possible where should I visit to get a good feel of the area.

Hi Xraydude,
I take it you're an x-ray tech?? I'm an MRI tech and my husband and I are planning to move to Charleston as soon as our home sells here in RI. Tough economy though so we just lowered the price considerably. When we visited last May we visited MIddleton Plantation, took the Gullah tour, went to Fort Sumter, walked the Battery and downtown area. We ate several times at Red's Icehouse on Shem Creek in Mt pleasant- just loved it. Good luck with your visit and job search.
Patty

Thanks Patty, I also do some CT. I have been working on learning more so I can do CT full time. I hope to get down there in late April early May.

I am certified in CT also, but haven't done it in 10 years. I am looking constantly for jobs, but no luck finding an MRI job that's a benefitted position. There's plenty of xray jobs though. Where do you live now and are you bringing a family with you? Mt Pleasant is good for schools in the Charleston area. Summerville is also good, but about a 30-40 minute drive from Charleston. Again good luck who knows maybe we'll end up working at the same medical facility.

Right now I live in the upper valley region of NH. I will be coming with just my cat. So schools are not a big deal. I don't mind a drive of that distance. I once had a commute much longer than that so 30 min is nothing. What is the cross training options down there like? If I can't get further in CT I would like to get into Angio. Right now I am working 2 jobs that are per-diem. There are no full time jobs anywhere up here.

I know, jobs are very tough to find in the Northeast unless you don't mind Boston. I believe St. Francis Roper Hospital has openings for x-ray techs. They have several locations of medical buildings in and around the Charleston area.

I am not into Boston, or the whole baseball thing. Not a sox fan either, so I would not fit in... Also not into Football either. Thanks for the link.

I'm not into the Boston thing either. I prefer small towns, like Charleston. Good luck with the job search.
