Hi,

We will be relocating to the Charleston area, and I am wondering about the availability of upscale shopping...Saks, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macys, etc. in Charleston and the surrounding areas. Are there any designer stores such as Gucci or Louis Vuitton? What about malls? Is there an area that you would recommend that has the best shopping?

Thanks so much!

Melody!...

We were just down in Charleston a couple of weeks ago. There is a Saks right downtown in the historic/shopping area, as well as many upscale boutiques (check out www.charlestonsfinest.com for a good representation)

Good Luck!

Yeah, downtown would be your best bet, as it comes closest to having the upscale stores you speak of. At this point, Charleston isn't yet big enough to support those higher-end department stores like Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, etc.

We are getting a Neiman Marcus on Daniel Island. There is also a Gucci store at the Shoppes at Charleson Place (down town on King Street)

Thank you all so much for your responses! I can't wait to check out the area. Any idea when the Neiman's will open?

This must be a pretty recent development; according to this article, the chances are very, very slim that Charleston will be getting a Neiman Marcus or Nordstrom anytime soon (I could see Nordstrom before NM though).
