This is huge for the Lowcountry. The media said that up to $140 million in revenue could come to the Lowcountry every year because of the airline.
Here is the article:
The Post and Courier - Southwest Air to land in Charleston, Greenville - Charleston SC - postandcourier.com (http://www.postandcourier.com/news/2010/may/11/charleston-airport-about-announce-new-low-fare-ser/ - broken link)
Great news. I was looking at possible flights out of CHS for under $250 and I could not find any. I typically use my CC points for flights and I like to get the cheap flights and use less points. Since I just moved here I did know that Charleston did not have a low cost carrier.
Great news! Thanks to Ckeenan and the Greenville G-Man for sharing this info! Having lived in both cities now, I think the 2 best cities in the state are going to become even better!
I'm thrilled with the SWA news! I've watched airfare from west of the Mississippi to CHS almost double in less than five years.
My closest SWA airport is still two hours away but well worth the two hour drive for flexible--checked bags, no flight change fees!!
*Interesting, how SWA said it didn't need the incentives to consider CHS as a stop. SWA doesn't go into anything unless it is profitable. So what are the other "legacy" carriers doing besides increasing airfare almost daily to and from CHS??

Maybe getting ready to substantially drop their airfares....?
Thank god! I’ve grown so tired of the high airfares from here. Around $400 bucks to fly back to Texas. When the same flight cost $175 from Charlotte/Atlanta. Last trip I was so tempted to drive to Charlotte but decided against it. Airfares were a lot better when Air Tran had service here, and now that were getting a low-cost “again” thankfully airfares will go back down. Traveled on Southwest a lot over the years” being from Texas” so will be nice to use my Rapid Rewards once again.
This is a great thing for the Lowcountry and the Upstate, as it will be a "game-changer." We will have air service that we have never had before, with flights probably at least to Nashville and BWI, and other cities.
Great job by the local leaders.
