2020 will be a busy year for the airport with several construction projects starting up which will have significant impact. Marshall’s new school of aviation, a new Customs building, and work on the taxiway will all be welcomed developments for the region.
Bridgeport has a daily flight to Chicago that does very well. I can't imagine with all the connectors from Chicago it didn't do well in Charleston. You would think they would give Charleston a heads up before cancelling and see what they could do to get numbers up if that's the reason!!!!!

The Bridgeport flight is probably subsidized by the EAS program, whereas this flight isn’t. Also, decisions to cancel service aren’t strictly related to a flight being profitable or not. It may be that American’s subsidiary operator needs the gate slot in Chicago for a more profitable flight, or they may needed the plane/ crew to increase or maintain frequency on another route. Finally, competition may play a role, as United flys to Chicago 3x daily.
That drives me bonkers! That flight opened up connections to a huge chunk of destinations. I know people used that flight as well.
I never understood why they started that flight- United already has multiple flights a day on that route and people using American can already fly to hubs at Charlotte, DCA and Philadelphia. Seemed a bit overkill when they couldn't even make a Dallas flight work.
Hopefully Charleston can get a flight to NYC again. Also, a flight to Miami or Fort Lauderdale would be welcomed!
Passenger numbers did show an increase in January from the previous year, so it's not like people aren't using the airport. You'd think that since we aren't located near a major city that we would attract more regional flights.
