It is hard to believe a Congressman would be such a fool.
I used to do some lobbying in DC and so would spend time calling on Congressmen and Senators. One day I was yacking to others while walking on the sidewalk in front of the Reagan building, and my heel got caught on a break in the sidewalk and I tumbled forward.
I would have hit the sidewalk face first if not for the man whom I fell into.
He was carrying papers in his hand and when I fell into him, the papers flew everywhere. Without even looking up, I started profusely apologizing and reaching down (along with the rest of the people in the area) to pick up the poor guy's papers which were strewn across the sidewalk and into the street.
He was a total gentleman and kept saying - no no, the main thing is that you are alright . . .
When I finally got my bearings and the papers had been collected, I finally looked him straight in the face to say THANK YOU and I AM SORRY once again, and realized I was looking at Henry Waxman, (D-CA). He asked if I were there on business, we talked for a moment, and he was so kind as to give me his card w/ his assistant's number on it before shaking my hand.
I am no big fan of Waxman's -- we are often on opposite sides of issues. But I will always remember the magnanimous and gentlemanly way he handled a totally embarrassing and (for him) annoying situation.
That is how one would expect a Congressman to act.
Bob Etheridge is no less than a disgrace to the state. What a jerk.
