I didn't see any recent posts on this but just wanted to share my recent experience at Charlotte's new Drive-in:

Charlotte Drive In Movies

The inflatable screen is really nice. It's very bright and sharp. Right now it's not crowded when you go. We took our toddler there two weekends ago to see Despicable Me and the second showing was Ecplise; so they place recent movies. Plus it's great to be able to take our little one and be able to see movie without having to get a babysitter. Police were on sight too but I didn't see any reason they "needed" to be there.

We had a great time and are excited to go again. It's at the corner of Tryon and Tyvola. For those not familiar with that area it's near where old Hornet Colosseum was.

Support our new drive in! Hopefully it will stick around.

It's a cool idea, but I wish they charged less! Belmont Drive-In is $4/person.

(Wow, that sounds nit-picky! I was just surprised to see that $7/adult!)

Their website is complete crap. They misspelled the street name, and all of the info listed was taken directly off of the Belmont drive-in site. I'd love to see the concession menu and such.

Drive in movies are fun - I wonder if they will show movies for grown ups though. I don't think I could sit through a cartoon double feature.

as I understand it is illegal....
they don't have the permitting or the permission to even be set up
on the property. There was a news story about it, but I didn't follow it.

Then why wouldn't the police that are patrolling the area shut it down?

Getting back to the op...

Is it a big blow up screen like they use for movies in the park? I don't know if I would pay $7 each for that (if thats what it is). I've never been to a drive in, so it might be fun to check out.

The OP also reminded me of something OT... We were at the Regional Farmers market last week when my boyfriend made a comment about going to basketball games at the Coliseum in that area. Of course I've only been in Charlotte for 2 1/2 years now, so I tried telling him that it was over on the other side of town, thinking he was talking about what is now Bojangles Coliseum. Oops, I was wrong. I feel bad now for making him doubt his memory
