Well, I'm planning on taking maybe a 4 day vacation In Spring with tax return money. I've explored ATL, DC, New Orleans, and San Antonio pretty well. Been to others for business (Houston, Orlando)
I want to go somewhere outdoorsy (I hate art, not into "culture" nor history nor hipster). I'm think New York City because I've really only been to the airports; however, the person I'd be going with went and hated NYC... I'm very savvy when it comes to cities and I can figure out a city blind folded. He can't even drive on South Blvd. without thinking he's in Hong Kong....
I know NYC probably isn't the first place that comes to mind for outdoorsy, but I've heard about the Urban Rail Trail, Bronx Zoo and those are things I'm interested in.
BUT
I also pondered just staying in town, staying at a hotel uptown and going to Carowinds, white water center, taking Amtrak to Asheboro for the zoo (if it goes there?) but I don't know if that's boring.
Can't go wrong with Myrtle Beach? Haven't been with him and I haven't been in 4 years.
Where is a good place to vacation for Charlotteans. Obviously LA, Seattle, etc are far away but if anything is worth it, I'd love to know.
If you plan a trip to mrytle beach during the spring you may want to avoid the spring bike week that really last for 2 or 3 weeks unless you like noise and plenty of it and the smell of gasoline and oil...I have had several beach trips messed up because I didnt know the bike weeks would be going on so long. In the fall they have more bike weeks that last much longer than 7 days.....
Myrtle Beach has become a trash pit. IMO, if you are going to the SC coast, head to the Charleston area. Not only are there nice beaches there, but you can spend a couple of days just exploring the historic areas.
USAirways has many direct flights to the Caribbean from here, all within a 3 hour flight, which makes it perfect for a short visit.
