Tip for the fries: Leave them in the paper bag, put about 1/2 pack of sugar in the bag, and shake well. O.M.G.

You see we southpark shoppers cant have our children subject to play with "just anyone's" kids. You see we don't want our refined children to learn bad words and learn to eat buggers and such.We have to be careful..A public playground? how nasty!

Yeah...and one never sees spoiled brats or bad parents at, say, WalMart.

The concept of a children's playground at a mall is foreign to me. Where I grew up (outside of DC) none of the malls there had such a place. If my mom needed to go shopping I either spent the afternoon at a friend's house or I got dragged from store to store.

As for Five Guys....that chain started back in DC. Its a little taste of home.

Agree.

I'm 40 and the first time I ever saw a kids playground at a retail space was IKEA.
Personally I would not leave my girls at such a thing, but it appears I am in the minority.

You people are not coordinated enough to shop AND watch your children at the same time?
People are so lazy today...be the parent!

The filthy play area at Carolina Place mall is not intended to be a place where you could leave your kids. Not sure if it's even still there as I haven't stepped foot in there in some time. I'll rub elbows with the likes of your "typical" Southpark shopper any day than go to that hot mess, or NorthLake for that matter. The only sleazy thing wrong with Southpark are those incredibly annoying and increasingly aggressive kiosk freaks.

It's designed to give kids a break and let them play for a bit during a portion of the average Ikea shopping trip (which is 3+ hours). It's time-limited to an hour or less, depending on capacity. There's also play areas throughout the store to keep the kids occupied.

If I was forced to spend 3+ hours in any one store, I think I would need a play break...or a drink.

No matter how hard I try, it's tough to make any ikea trip under two hours, so three is not a stretch. I think that's the only store of it's kind, though...three hours anywhere else would push me to the brink too. Unless it's a fancy boutique that offers free whisky while you shop (Unfortunately, I never got the chance to partake at Billy Reid when it was open in SP).
