Hello Everyone!
We will be relocating very soon to the Charlotte area and I am trying to narrow down where to live!!! We currently live in a very safe neighborhood with great schools that has a small town feel, you know, like when you go almost anywhere you will see people that you know, there are Christmas parades, festivals, neighborhood get togethers etc.... Anyway, we are hoping to find the same for our new home! Our price range in under 200,000. Any suggestions??? also how is Indian Trail? the housing seems a little less expensive there.... I'm wondering why?

At this point I think you'd have to look OUTSIDE the Charlotte metro to find that kind of town. Lincolnton comes to mind, or Clover, SC. Waxhaw might qualify, but it's growing so much I worry it will lose it's small town appeal before much longer. Belmont might be worth a look for sure.

You can find some of what you described in particular neighborhoods inside Charlotte or in its metro. Look at neighborhoods like Highland Creek or Baxter (in Fort Mill, SC) for example.

Indian Trail is pretty middle class without a lot of zoning. So you'll see farms and trailer homes right next to nice subdivisions. That may be why you're seeing less expensive home prices there

Where is your job location - that will determine where you should live more than anything.

I'd second Clover and Lincolnton. I'd also add Dallas and Denver. For sheer beauty, Hickory and Conover are hard to beat.

Highland Creek would certainly have homes in their price range. I'd stay away from Baxter- probably not much in their price range, and God, are those houses close together!

Good luck with your search!

Kings Mountain is no further out than Lincolnton or Clover. Figure out how far they are from Gastonia on 321, & Kings Mountain is probably slightly closer. The downtown was pretty much decimated by the financial disaster caused by the mill closings. The city is in the process of revamping & repopulating it with businesses, so, if you don't mind watching the process, over the next year or two, it should be considered.

ETA: You asked about locations in a previous thread & Matthews was suggested. That would certainly be a shorter commute than anything suggested in this thread.

I think Matthews is what you are looking for if you are going to be working in Charlotte. That said, you are not going to find exactly what you are looking for here.
