Does anyone have any recommendations on anyone in the Charlotte area that does a good job tinting home windows? Some friends are looking to put a light tint on their new home windows to cut down on UV Rays and damage to antique furniture. They're in the Ballantyne / Waxhaw area.
I had some friends do this with a 3M product -- will check for you. But if your friends have new construction or windows under warranty, sometimes tinting the windows will void the warranty. Worth checking out....
I have a big wall-of-windows in my great room and didn't want to cover them up with curtains or blinds. During the summer, most of the damaging direct sunlight is blocked by my backyard trees fortunately, but I'm looking into getting a light tinting on the top windows, too.
Too bad they don't have something like the polarized sunglasses have. I really don't want to darken the room, I just want to block the harmful rays.
I know this is too late for your friends, but for anyone still in the building process you can get Low E glass windows. My parents did this in their Myrtle Beach house they moved into last year and it's amazing how nice and cool the house stays even in front of the windows, the sun is not beating in on you--or your furniture. I know it costs more, but definitely worth it in my mind, wish we had built this house ourselves and done it, I could certainly use it on some of the windows here!
We did a lot of research online and found the best tint apparently is Huper Opkik. It is supposed to cut the most heat and glare but it is pretty much invisible. It was more expensive but it was worth it - we used Aztec Sun in Charlotte - they only do homes. 704-953-2145 ask for eric
have you tinted yet try protint they are reputable and professional. Window Film Products for Residential, Commercial, Automotive and Racing Applications
Those low E pre-treated windows keep out about 7% of the sun's damaging rays, while 3M window films block out 99.9% of the ultraviolet spectrum (which causes fading) then varying degrees of heat/visible light, depending on how clear or dark you want them to be ... between 40 and 70% of the heat.
