Howdy Folks! I'm thinking of relocating from Ohio to Charlotte. I have been in the MidWest all of my life. Ready for a change! Looking to head South! Charlotte residents what do you LOVE about it? What areas of town are good, bad or indifferent?
As a former Ohioan I feel your pain. I like that we don't have 4 months of gray! I love the proximity to the mountains and beaches. Though I wish Charlotte had more of its own culture and unique vibe, I love it's location within NC.
Lived in Ohio for a few years, originally from MI. I do love the short and mild winters, and I really like the early springs -- but, those come with a price, and allergies go crazy.
I'm otherwise indifferent. There are a lot of things I miss about the Midwest, specifically the Lakes, but there are some great things going on down here. I don't care for the terrible drivers.
If you make the move, don't do it unless you have a job offer in hand.
we used to. before we were flooded by refugees from ALL POINTS NORTHWARD.
haha, good point!
The way I see it, Charlotte is a newer city that wasn't built on an industry (aside from more recent banking). The result is that most buildings are new. Many businesses are newer and mostly chain stores. This is more what I was thinking of. A nice result, Charlotte is the cleanest city I have been to.

haha..everybody wants to talk about the winters..but NOBODY wants to talk about the summer heat..its the souths dirty little secret///

I hear a lot of people say they wish Charlotte had more Urban "grit" or that we are super sterile and clean. But that is a HUGE plus in my opinion
And to be honest, I actually prefer chain stores over non-chain businesses.
You want urban grit, take a ride down Franklin Blvd. (Highway 74 through Gastonia) and you'll get your urban grit..... It's like Wilkinson Blvd. Between uptown & The airport X10.
I think Charlotte has it's own culture. It's hard to explain, but I know it exist because I live it... I mean. What is the Culture of Dallas? Atlanta? Washington DC? I been to all them cities tons of times and nothing stuck out to me like "Wow. These people are like them European bastards"
Now Out west is where I see cultural differences. Louisiana, Texas, The West, and the rural midwest is where I see big cultural differences.
- What I love about Charlotte is all the outdoorsy type stuff (Such as the US National White Water Center, Carowinds, Freedom Park, etc.)
- The Landscaping is beautiful, the weather is awesome, people are very nice here
- Everything CVP said
- Uptown Charlotte is Vibrant
- Charlotte is growing and its exciting to be part of a growing city!
