its simple...i have an LLC

call 311 or 704-336-7600 and ask them where do you go to apply for a biz license/name. i would tell you but i can't remember the building. its downtown tho. for example, i'll assume your biz name is FENG21.

you have to look thru their computer system as well as 3 big books to make sure no1 has the biz name FENG21. if its clear, then you apply for that name and pay the clerk (can't remember how much).

then get a federal EIN number (employee identification number) by calling 800-829-4933
you'll use your EIN to open checking accounts, tax returns and such. it sorta replaces your social security #

for an LLC, you have to contact the dept of the secretary of state for your articles
cmccormick@sosnc.com

being a LLC, as apposed to a sole prop., protects your personal assets if someone sues you. if you're an LLC, they can only sue the biz

If you are doing business with the same name as the LLC then you don't need to register it. What you are talking about is called an Assumed Name registration. As long as you do business with the exact name as the LLC you aren't assuming another name (an AKA or alias) and therefore don't have to register it.

If on the other hand you are going to use a different name for the company than the LLC/INC name then you go down to the CCOB building which is next to the new court house at 720 E. 4th St.
