This is the part of the article that disturbs me the most:

CMS policy says teachers can intervene to help protect a student but they don't have to.

I guess it is designed to save them for getting stabbed or a beat down of their own.

As far as the other kids doing nothing and recording the incident (really, taping? what kind of tape, duct?) so what? Kids have never done anything but watch during a fight. It was like that when I was in school 20 years ago and it was probably like that way before then, too. And girls were the hardest fighters. Dudes would quit after a few minutes but the girls would never stop.

People always try to make it out like there was an overnight degradation of society. People have always been animals and always will be. The future will be more like Babylon 5 than Star Trek.

Of course there are two sides to the story. We can blame the substitute, but contractually he is not obligate to intervene. Let's say he did and he pull one or more girl by the arm and the students says that he broke her arm. Now he will become involve in a lawsuit. Would I stand there and watch? No, but I'm not the person who is thrown in the middle at the time. I know too many teachers and they all tell me that they would not respond to middle/highschool students who fight. They prefer to call school safety officers, whose job is to intervene. As far as the children taping, this is just a new reality that we all must live with and they have to live with their conscience. As long as viewers are tapping in to view one misery, the recording will keep coming.

Ya, they should at least call the safety officer.

I think it's good that students record fights with their phone video cam. It provides evidence.

In CMS a teacher can not touch a student or be subject to being fired.sued arrested etc. If a teacher is seeing a fight take place in her classroom she can call for help BUT she can not leave the classroom to go and look for help. If she leaves the classroom and other students "unsupervised" she then can be fired etc.

Flash bang grenades , or a similar system such as Active Denial would dispell situations like that instantaneously , provided this was Equilibrium. However in this lawsuit happy nanny state , that wouldn't be a good idea. I'm left to wonder , what would? I mean , humanity seemingly prides itself on 'animal instinct' , 'animal magnetism' , animal this , that , then gets collectively knickers in a bunch when treated as such. Leaves one reeling in abashedness.

Girls are vicious. They go for hair, have long nails and claw at each other face (i.e. weapons), etc... there is no way I would ever get involved in breaking them up. Most girl fights end with lots of blood. Guys, we just punch each other until one gives up. Girls, they just keep going.

In today's society as a teacher, there is no way I would ever stop a fight (female or male). People are too sue happy.

I hereby volunteer for the position of "Fight Breaker Upper" in CMS. Nothing would make me happier than to get a running start and kick a little punk square in the jaw to get them off someone they obviously outclassed in a fight.

Seriously though, the girl doing all the beating is just mad because she's a disgusting fat-body and her victim is a normal sized little girl that isn't going to have a heart attack by age 30 due to obesity.
