We are finally coming to Charlotte to check out some homes. Union county seems to be the best fit for us. Based strictly on the criteria of (1) great for families w/ elementary school age children and (2) price range 700k -900k, what are your top picks?

At that price range I personally would choose Myers Park or Dilworth, but that's because I like city neighborhoods with sidewalks - being able to walk to stores and parks. There are good schools there as well. But if you want suburbia, you can also look in Southern Mecklenburg county around Blakeney or Ballantyne. Taxes are lower in Union County this is true

I'd go for:
Providence Downs
Kingsmead
Weddington Chase - you'd only spend about $550 and save the rest
