Predicted Heat Index today is 108. However..... It's worse.
The heat index might be even higher. Apparently the heat index calculation hasn't been changed since the 1970s when the average person in the USA weighed 147 lbs. We are a whole lot fatter now where the average person now weighs 180. I'm betting Charlotte might be higher than this average by the number of fat people that I see (including kids).
Heat index in Charlotte could be 110 or higher, so watch yourselves.
For absolute temps, it's going to be another day around 100 in Charlotte and I'm sure in some places higher than this number.
As I've said many times, the heat index is the best way one can tell how "hot" it is outside.
Anytime you have a heat index approaching or over 110, it is bad out, and can be life threatning.
What's bad about the heat wave is not just the intensity (, its the LARGE AREA in the country that's being affected. (approx 1M sq miles under a heat advisory)

You have MANY areas in the far north (ie North/Central New England & upper mid-west) that are not used to the extreme heat also (unlike places like S Texas and Florida where this is routine...)
Best advice is DON'T go out if you don't have to.....at least in the afternoon hours....

Nothing compared to the number I see in Western Pa. Comforting to see the number with relatively normal BMI's when we are in Huntersville. There is hope for us when we make the final move.

Charlotte was #9 on America's fattest city list from Men's Health in '09. Can't imagine how bad Western PA must be.
When it's this hot, I can't stand being outside for even a few minutes. One of my neighbors had surgery a few days ago, more than just outpatient but I'm not sure exactly what it was. She was outside around 4 PM yesterday, working in her yard, sweating like crazy. She's not a big person at all, which makes her appearance all the more scary.
