I was wondering about Huntersville, Cornelius, Davidson and Denver as far as the factors of affordability, safety and commute to Charlotte area? (actual area would be 5533 Westpark Dr. Zip 28217).
We have a budget of $200k for a home - we don't need anything too big really. 1450 sq. ft would be doable. According to the data on this site - the demographics in the above listed areas are best in regards to educated population and the least sex offenders. Naturally, I like that idea considering I have a little girl! Anyway, I've searched the MLS and there appears to be a few decent homes in these areas for sale within our price range. I'm wanting to know why everyone keeps saying it's so hard to get anything for less than $250 in the Lake Norman area? It doesn't seem that bad - you have a decent choice of homes for sale no? I mean, the MLS can't lie. A real estate agent told me that these areas would be entirely out of my league - I just don't get it.
Also, as far as commute goes - mapquest says these areas range from 30-45 minutes away depending, with Denver being the furthest. What is it like with traffic and is that estimation accurate? This site doesn't have any demographic info on Denver, so if anyone knows- please tell me!

Your work address is in south/southwest Charlotte off of Tyvola Road. Lake Norman is indeed a more expensive area, the realtor was correct. Why not look in the Steele Creek area - a much better commute with a lot less crowding than up by the lake.

All of those towns are good places to live. I did a quick search and there are many homes in your price range but I'm not sure you will find the sq. footage you need. The commute time is accurate. If there us a wreck it will be longer. Are you against living in the Steele Creek area? That would be a nice commute to Westpark Dr.
I'm not familiar with Steele Creek or where it's located...
Steele Creek is a nice area in the southwestern corner of the city, near Lake Wylie. You would find many homes in your price range there. Here is an example of one:
I think you can find something. You might not have a huge selection, but I think it can be done.
