Who is responsible for paying for survey on a new property? I am reviewing my settlement statement and the survey cost is charged to the buyer. Thanks.

Ding, ding, ding ... you are correct!

Of course, it's not mandatory that you have one but I wouldn't think of buying a property without having a survery conducted.

It is a buyer expense unless otherwise agreed upon during negotiations.
