My fiancee is actively applying to law enforcement agencies and we pulled up that Gastonia, NC Police Department is hiring non certified officers. If anyone has information about the police department, or the area in general, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you! : )

I live in the next town over, in Kings Mountain. Gastonia is a city of >70K, less than 30 minutes west of Charlotte. It's mentioned in a lot of threads, so you can use the search the forum function. Be aware that the area west of Charlottte was hit badly by mill closures when they went offshore. The towns are working on attracting businesses & improving, but you will see nasty & sometimes snarky comments about Gastonia.

One question. Do you have children? If so, are they of school age (or close)? If so, that may be something to consider when deciding whether or not to reside in Gaston county.

There are good, bad, & indifferent schools in Gaston County. What's your point, besides a scare tactic?

No, we do not have any children right now. Once we get married and settle down, we will be looking to start a family, so schools won't be an issue for a while : )

I think you are reading a bit too much in to my comment. Wouldn't you take a good hard look at the schools before moving to any area if you had children?
But since you brought it up, Now that I think about it, in my 20 years of living all over the Charlotte Metro area, I have never once heard anyone say they were moving to Gaston County "for the schools". Lincoln County, Iredell County, York County, Cabarrus County, Union County; yes.
