I've been reading stories of the hawks and owls snatching up cats/dogs. That terrifies me. I guess it wouldn't be an issue for those who grew up around it and are used to it. But for me that's new.

I do remember seeing the news a while ago before I even knew Charlotte would be a potential place of a residence for me... but not really paying close attention to it.

I have a cousin there now who said in the area that he lives in it's very country. Lots of deer, possums, and he gets snakes in his yard during the summer. We tried to find me a place that wasn't so rural, but there are woods in the backyard of the place I really want. I've been looking at zipcodes between 28262-28272 + Ballantyne.
Charlotte doesn't have a wet or dry season. It gets about 3.5-4 inches of rain every month, every single month. You'll have more dry spells during summer interspersed with bouts of heavy hit-and-miss thunderstorms. In the wintertime it's periodic fronts with moderate rain, with cloudless skies in between, like what you get in NorCal.

Charlotte is too far inland to get hurricanes with any frequency. Last one was in 1989, and that was a once-in-100-years event.

Stella, I really want to go hunting for "Normie" now, or perhaps for the Lizard Man of South Carolina. Something very True-Blood-esque about such things. I think you and I should organize a hunt. LOL.

Be extra careful when you prepare to leave for work ... beat on the hood of your car real loud ... during the winter months if a critter crawls up on your engine and then .... you start your car it can get real nasty. Blood and gore everywhere. It can get expensive too depending on the size of the critter.

But you're lucky if the vermin doesn't explode because then you've just found your BBQ lunch for the day.

I like red tail hawks ... we have a family in our woods behind our home. Normally the red tails mate for life and this pair has been here for about 8 years. When they mate they soar high in the sky, rolling and turning even locking talons together ... then the female returns to the nest they have prepared and lays her eggs.

They have excellent vision and catch rats, rabbits, snakes, squirrels but I've never seen the ones here go after a dog we have 75 lb Boxer and he is safe. LOL

The red tail hawk is an awesome raptor. We named him Rick's Hawk. When he and his lady bird mate he will scream and screech ... a happy bird.

This picture was taken in Chester SC.
