I am thinking of relocating to Charlotte from Los Angeles. My husband loves it there but I have never been. We are planning to come and visit in July. I dont want anything too rural. He loves Mint Hill. Are there any other neighborhoods you can suggest for us? Wanting to spend up to $400k for a house. We have a 5 year old daughter so good schools are a must. Private vs public is a decision that I am very worried about. She attends private school now because LAUSD is so bad but if I could find a good public school that would be ideal. A diverse school is also important to us. I am a litigation paralegal so I figure that all these jobs are probably Uptown. Your suggestions are much appreciated.
South Charlotte is a good area with good schools. The Ballantyne/Blakeney area would be a good choice. Let me know if I can help. I could send info on schools and neighborhoods.
We moved from LA to the Charlotte area almost 2 years ago. I worked in LAUSD for 16.5 years as a teacher and a counselor.
Take a look at the Union County website. Lots of info there about test scores, demographics, etc....
We live in Marvin. We border Meck county, Waxhaw and Weddington.
Feel free to PM me if you want to for any questions. I can give you the good the bad and the ugly about Charlotte vs. Los Angeles.....although give me a few days because this week I have been ready to head back to LA! Maybe next week I will like living here again! HA!
Lived in Alta Loma/Rancho Cucamonga. My kids were in the Alta Loma USD and I was very concerned about the schools in Charlotte/Mecklenburg. Ended up in Fort Mill, SC. Big House, nice size yard, good neighborhood and good schools. Did my research before moving. For schools I would go with South Charlotte, Union Co, Ft Mill in York County SC, or up north around Mooresville/Lake Norman. For traffic to uptown, I'd stick with Ft Mill altho my husband was commuting from Rancho to Rosemeade in LA (hour and a half rush hour drive) so Charlotte traffic is a piece of cake. Luckily, we get to stay in the south part of Charlotte and Ft Mill for the most part.
Hi DawnW, how is Marvin? My job is transfering me to Charlotte in June and I've been looking and researching all area's near there. I did some research on Marvin/Waxhaw, and Weddington but would love to actually learn from someone that's already living there. My wife and I are up in the air on where to live and time is running out quick. We have a 13 year old and a 7 year old, is it a good place for a Family?
WONDERFUL place to live! The best schools in MY opinion (I am sure I will get flack for saying that but as a teacher and school counselor I think I have a leg to stand on).
I wanted to live in Charlotte. I am a city girl. DH talked me into moving to Marvin which I thought was "in the middle of nowhere." Well, it took all of 18 months for the city to literally come to me. it is still not "city", but much more so than when we moved in. And Ballantyne area is only a few miles away with lots of shopping, eating, etc....
It is an excellent place for a family. My boys are 9, 7 and 3 and we have over 2 acres. They LOVE the space.
The people here are very nice. Marvinnative (on this board) lives in my neighborhood and lisaf (also here) is moving in next month! I haven't even met her but I "sold" her on our neighborhood! Guess I should be a realtor! HA!
