I checked a few hotels from the Amtrak site and it said the Hyatt was .24 from the station. Is that not correct? I guess worse case we can cab over to hotel and walk to parade rte. We will have 2 kids and a rolling suitcase, so not sure I want to walk too far with alll things considered.

YES, cab it over to the hotel. Charlotte's Amtrak station is not only small for a city of Charlotte's size; it's also located in a rather shady area of town.
