Let me start off by saying that I am not a TWC hater. I have used their cable, internet and phone services for years. I haven't had too many issues and when I did they have come out to fix it without any problem...including nights and weekends. Cable is expensive, period, and while there may be some cheaper options, I am not sure you get the same things for that price {HD, etc.} I do think they are like any other company these days...they want to make more money and will try to get away with things and prey on an uneducated consumer.

Anyway...my contract runs out at the end of the month. I got a letter in the mail telling me that my bill was going to go up $20.00 a month but I would be locked in for 2 years. {I am not sure how anyone would think that was a deal.} I called to ask them what I was getting for my $20.00 extra a month and reminded them that I had options. After 17 years of being a loyal customer, I could go somewhere else. They switched me to the retention department and was offered a year contract for about 15.00 cheaper than what I was paying.

Moral of the story....ALWAYS CALL!! I was very pleasant, by the way. I have learned to start that way and then get nasty if needed.

Good advice but why are you agreeing to ANY contract with TWC? I have been a customer of theirs for 5 years now and have never been locked into any contract.

I call their retention department about 4 times per year to see what type of specials or deals they have going. At one point I had HD cable, showtime, movie channel, and road runner turbo internet for a total of $80 per month.

Also, you can get all of the major networks in HD for free using a simple and cheap antenna connected to your TV. The only thing you really need cable for is getting cable only channels like ESPN, MTV, HBO, etc.

Frank can you DM the retention phone number to me? I need to call them next week to see if I can get a better price.

You have to call the main number. When you get the automated voice, say "Cancel service". It will then connect you to the retention dept.

You can tell them you were at the mall and got an offer from clearwire or ATT and was thinking about switching but wanted to check with them first. They have a pre-approved list of special offers they can speak with you about. If you can't find one that fits your budget or needs, just call back in a week as they change often.

It can never hurt to ask

Great. I'll do that. AT&T is not available in Concord. Not sure about Clearwire. I'll just mention Direct TV. I had TWC sales people calling and asking to go with their triple play. I asked them to send me an email with all the costs associated so I could compare it with what I currently pay for cable, dsl, and phone. Never received an email and never heard back from them. No point in switching if I don't save any money.

Triple play(digi tv, internet, phone) is currently $89.99 but it says you need to subscribe to one more TWC service.

Back when I had Comcast in DC, I used to march into the office every 6 months with my box announcing that I was cancelling service. They would always find a way to get me on to the "new customer" pricing plan.
