I forgot to add that I also like that I would be able to be a stay at home mom in Charlotte. Not that I have any kids yet but if we do it would be an option for me. It would never be an option here in LI.
The specifics will vary by person... but the first and universal step in getting there?
That starts with working ONLY 40 hours a week at a job with a 10 minute drive
so you HAVE TIME in your life for the other things that you actually value.
Only if you want to work only 40 hours a week.
We're all different.....right?
The point is about the NEED to that so many have...
always on call, always on the go, always, always, always...
If you have the ability to keep a job and earn enough on 40...
consider yourself lucky. Most can't and THAT is almost criminal.
It's certainly a damned shame.
Have you lived in NYC? Try walking through Manhattan slowly and see what happens.
exactly... i hate that i am so stressed, uptight. i can't stand slow walkers, i walk in the street to get around them. i've lived here my whole life. i need a change!!

You'll surely get one in CLT....nobody walks anywhere!
Like you Ive lived in DR, NYC and GA. I also lived in Calif.
I dont live in CLT but I have family there and in Raleigh.
The reasons they moved to NC was to offer their children a better education, affordable family housing, better careers and a sense of community (safety).
Those are part of the same reasons I moved to the Atlanta area (which by the way is nothing like Savannah). Each of us is extremely satisfied with our decisions and our kids are growing up happy and with many more opportunities than we had.
It's been hard convincing people to move because it is human neature to get comfortable with what is familiar to us. People that flock to NYC often do because it is probably better than where they came from or NYC has that certain thing they are looking for. Once they get over the initial step of leaving then everything flows in its place. So far I have at least 10 sets of families that have left to NC, GA, FL, TX and CA.
The majority of people I know both here and in NC are transplants.
I still visit friends & family in NYC, afterall it is a great city for visiting but perhaps not to raise a family (comfortably).
