There are three school districts in the area.
Huntersville, Cornelius & most of Davidson feed into Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools.
Half of Mooresville (most of 28115) feeds into the Mooresville Graded School District and the other half (most of 28117) feeds into Iredell Statesville Schools. CMS is a large district (around 150 schools), ISS is mid-size (aprox. 40 schools) and MGSD is very small (8 schools). CMS and ISS offer some magnet and IB options, MGSD is unique with the laptop 1:1 initiative and gets a good deal of national recognition.
School grades and reviews can be found on greatschools.org and there have been several posts about the different school systems, though if you have specific questions or describe what you are looking for I am sure we can help.

As far as rentals, what is your price range? While I think the rental market moves pretty quickly here, I think you will find many different options. If you have visited the area, did you prefer one city over another? It would help to pinpoint which area of Lake Norman you would like to focus on.
