The "directly or indirectly" clause is key here and is being ignored.
Not hardly.
I have stated over and over that any church that engages in this should be investigated and if they have broken the regs - they should have their tax exempt status removed.
I do agree that some cases are so outrageously blatant, it appears the participants are either 1. baiting the IRS or 2. resting assured that no one will do a thing about it.
I am not being funny here: what constitutes 'indirect' support of a candidate?
I think you pointed to it in another post...
"Isn't it funny how those "voter registration guides" magically pop-up in the vestibules of churches...issues that are presented are selective, and they *always* point to the GOP candidate (surprise!)."
For consideration:
Acts 5:32 - And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Rom. 8:[9] But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Heb. 5:[9] And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Okay. So who's going to pursue the matter? A democratic administration whose propaganda assists in its reelection efforts? Or a republican administration, whose propaganda assists in its reelection efforts?
What I find boggling, is the lack of discernment that constituents in both camps have, when it comes to the manipulation of special interests.

It's generally agreed upon, that a Pastor must follow the principles that undergird the above Scriptural references. But a Pastor should articulate the values in the Bible, and let each individual member draw their own conclusions as to who they should vote for.

Exactly. Pastors should teach the gospel - period. And nowhere in the Bible does it name specific candidates for office though .
Again, this thread is about tax exempt groups like certain churches breaking the law, or coming close to it, by endorsing candidates.

God AND Politics, all together in one thread. My oh my what a recipe for ill-will between people who may otherwise be fast friends.
From my (albeit limited) experience these are two topics where adults are unlikely to change their minds. But good luck!
