Feel like you're paying a lot to get online? You're on to something.
According to WhiteFence, the average Charlottean paid $51.18 for high-speed internet services in October. That's the highest price in the nation, higher than New York City, Philadelphia and Washington D.C.
There is no competition for Time Warner and their TERRIBLE service, esp customer service.
Verizon Fios we need you!
I have a question, How many major internet providers are in the Charlotte area ?
maybe like MollyNyC said you need some competition, that might bring down the cost.
One difference is that Time Warner isn't throttling users who use more than capped limits that other providers have instituted... Comcast is 250gb / month
I am curious what choices exist beyond time warner in charlotte?
I'm happy with my TWC service and price. That being said, I just chatted with a TWC rep to remind myself of what speed I get. This took about half an hour:
Well never mind that. I was trying to copy the chat text and I was redirected to a survey. But I get 20 Mbps for $34.95 a month.

$34.95 a month for 20 Mbps is a good deal in my opinion.
Bears, depending upon where you live, there is usually only one cable provider available, Time Warner being dominant. A lot has to do with how well you negotiate with the provider. AT&T is another provider; but, that is for DSL.
I think that I pay ~$50.00 per month for the basic service from Time Warner. Hate them, but, there is no other choice.
Not likely to get any competition anytime soon. All competition somehow seems to disappear after a month or two.

TWC must be giving vmaxnc a discount @ $34.95 a month for 20 Mbps
maybe vmaxnc is bundling with phone/TV services
I know that stand alone High Speed Internet averages $50 for most cable providers
unless your under some promotional plan. DSL is sometimes cheaper but they force you to pay for
a land line as well so it ends up being high too.
